On May 12, 2008, Broward County doctor, Aleyda Borge, M.D., along with the operators of Leonza Health Management Group, settled with the federal government for $6.7 million on allegations of healthcare fraud.

Dr. Borge allegedly prescribed unnecessary medications, some to patients she never saw at all. The United States also alleged that every patient of the clinic was given a kickback to entice them to become patients. The Hollywood, Florida clinic was unlicensed and focused primarily on treating patients with HIV.

In addition to the $6.7 million settlement, Dr. Borge is prohibited from any involvement in all federal healthcare programs. Thaiz Parra, the clinic's owner, was sentenced to 54 months in prison for her involvement.

The case is styled United States v. Aleyda M. Borge, M.D., Leonza Health Management Group, Inc., Thaiz Parra, Modesto Marquez, and Best Option Consulting, Inc., Civil Action Case No. 05-61566-CIV-COH.
